Being in School

Melina B is an employee at The Arc of Midland. She makes the office much more fun, and we love seeing her each day. Melina is authoring the blog, and “spilling the tea” about all sorts of things while sharing her perspective! Follow along as Melina posts each Monday for “Mondays with Melina.”

This week, Melina is reflecting on what school was like for her. From early mornings to band class and building woodshop projects, she’s sharing both the fun and the not so fun parts of her experience. At The Arc, we know that school looks different for everyone, which is why we work hard to support students through educational advocacy. Whether it’s helping families navigate IEPs or making sure every student has a voice, we believe everyone deserves the chance to learn in a way that works for them. As the winter semester comes to a close, Melina reminds us that it’s not just about grades or classes. It is also about finding what you love and remembering that even the tough moments can shape us into who we are.

Without further ado…

Hi im here to talk about what does it feel like going back to school it was hard used to waking up so early having breakfast getting your lunch ready and head out going to your locker and getting things ready i never been into sports or any practices i was in the Band from 5th grade - 12th grade. I loved it! I played percussion and a flag carrier, we played tons of songs and pep bands and marched in the halls. My favorite class was wood shop. I made a birdhouse, a dolphin footstool, a cat, a tarantula, and a Christmas tree, i also liked taking care of my health and wellness. I only had 2 lunches in the eyeball alley. I almost had my first lunch with my friends. But I had 2nd lunch and I was so sad, I was  alone most of the time all through high school.

Thank you !
