Car Dance Parties

Melina B is an employee at The Arc of Midland. She makes the office much more fun, and we love seeing her each day. Melina is authoring the blog, and “spilling the tea” about all sorts of things while sharing her perspective! Follow along as Melina posts each Monday for “Mondays with Melina.”

This week, Melina is sharing one of the things that brings her a lot of joy: car dance parties. Whether she is turning up the bass, getting everyone else in the car to dance with her, or surprising staff when her favorite song comes on, it is pretty clear that Melina knows how to make a car ride more fun.

It may seem like a small thing, but these are the kinds of moments we love at The Arc of Midland. So much of life happens in the everyday moments—laughing with someone, sharing a favorite song, being silly together, or finding something you both enjoy. Everyone deserves to have those moments and the opportunity to build real friendships, share their personality, make memories, and simply enjoy life alongside the people around them.

That is a big part of what we hope to create at The Arc. Inclusion isn't only about being invited into a space; it is about feeling comfortable enough to be yourself once you're there. We want the people we serve to have opportunities to try new things, connect with others, make their own choices, and share the things that make them happy. Sometimes that happens during one of our programs or a day out in the community. And sometimes it happens when the music gets turned up in the car and everyone starts dancing.

For Melina, those car dance parties are one of the ways she connects with the people around her—and from the sound of it, if you are riding with Melina, you better be ready to dance!

Without further ado…

“Hi everyone, I would like to talk about car dance parties. I do like to dance in the car. I get pumped up when the volume is cranked up so I can make other people dance too. and showing everybody i am having fun with the bass on. Sometimes I fall asleep until I hear my favorite song come up and I start dancing. It is funny. Because I would scare my staff, they fell for it and laughed. Car dancing Is my favorite to do with people.”
