iCanSwim Swim Camp 2025

What a week! We had 30 individuals attend camp this year, learning water safety and how to swim independently.

iCan Swim programs are designed for people with disabilities ages three and up, with the goal of teaching water safety skills and building confidence in the water. The Arc of Midland was proud to partner with the Greater Midland Community Center for this 5-day camp (Monday through Friday), where five Adapted Aquatics Instructors were trained and certified to help create an inclusive swimming environment for all participants beyond the duration of the camp.

At iCanSwim – Each camp consists of five 45- to 60-minute swim sessions per day, accommodating six swimmers per session. Swimmers developed soft skills, improved their balance and transition times, got physically active, and made lasting friendships. Encouraged by supportive staff at every step, each participant made meaningful progress. The week concluded with a celebration tunnel walk-through and free play with the pools amenities. Every swimmer was also sent home with a custom towel, a booklet about Archie the Arc Dog and safe swimming practices, and a life jacket gifted from My Michigan. It was an incredible week made possible by the dedication of our swimmers, volunteers, and sponsors!
