Advocacy

We advocate for all citizens to be welcomes and included in community life.

Inclusion

We trust families, people who work in systems and the community to do what they say they will do.

Creativity

We encourage creativity and diverse thinking.

Our programs and activities are strongly supportive of the goals of the United Way of Midland County

The United Way of Midland County focuses its resources on four key areas of impact in our community-strengthening families, increasing self-sufficiency, nurturing children and youth and promoting health. Offered in each of these categories are results-oriented "safety net" programs focused on meeting basic human needs. Working with 25 agency partners, we support local programs that provide measurable and visible results for those most vulnerable in our community, as you'll see demonstrated on the pages of this report.

Strengthening Families

Through the work of local agencies, families are given the opportunity to establish and improve healthy relationships through tailored programs and activities offered in our community.

Increasing Self-Sufficiency

Those in our community with disabilities or who find themselves in difficult or threatening situations are offered programs and services to help get them back on their feet.

Nurturing Children & Youth

Local agencies offer creative ways to provide healthy recreational and educational activities for today’s youth, while exposing them to positive and influential role models.

Promoting Health

Programs and services offered through our local agencies that promote healthy and safe living as well as support those coping with illness or addiction

For those of you who have been trying to follow this emerging issue related to people who are eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare, please take note of the document written by the Michigan association of Mental Health boards.  This is the recommendation that they are making to the state of Michigan as Michigan begins to develop a new model of service for this population.  As always, you can check out the Arc Michigan website for the most current updates on this issue. Thanks, Jan Lampman

United Way is an important partner in the work that we do. In an effort to help United Way reach the goal of raising $5,000,000 this year, we are participating in a pop can drive and a "change for change" campaign. Please bring your loose change and pop cans to our annual meeting on October 20th so that we can show the power of our membership when it is time to help out! The Arc of Midland has already begun collecting money from the people they serve during the United Way Campaign. As the United Way is serving many more people this year, we need to all step up our support

As some of you may have heard, Michigan is one of a few states that have been selected by the Federal government to look at reform of service delivery for people who are "dual eligible's", meaning people who have both Medicaid and Medicare.  This system reform has the potential to significantly impact many people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. .
