Photo Gallery - Arc Walk Roll and Stroll
This year's Arc Walk Stroll and Roll took place on August 16, 2008 and was a great community event. The Arc of Midland received outstanding support from many community businesses. Over 40 local businesses donated prizes for our door prize drawing. Chemical bank, School Days, Wolverine bank, and Northwood University Bookstore were among some of the many local businesses to donate great prizes for our raffle to support the Arc. Thanks to the generosity of the H Hotel in Midland, Arc member Jenny Inman jumped for joy when her name was announced as the winner of the grand prize. Jenny won a one-night weekend stay in a deluxe room at the H Hotel, and dinner for two at cafe Zinc.
Lou E. Loon from the Great Lakes Loons and Sammy Spirit from the Saginaw Spirit lead walkers in a fun high energy warm up before honorary chairperson Sheriff Jerry Nelson cut the red ribbon to begin the walk. Apothecary shop of Midland was the Arcs greatest supporter with the largest team. Walkers kept their energy up with bananas provided by Glens and Kroger, and kept hydrated with bottled water provided by Elco Water. Everyone had a great time walking, strolling, and rolling on the rail trail.
After the walk, families enjoyed Arts included activities provided by West Midland Family Center, Midland Community Center, Literacy Council, GMS, Shelterhouse, Count me in! Chippewa Nature Center, NEMSCA Headstart and Epworth Preschool. At the Count Me In! table kids learned what it would be like to have impaired vision by wearing smudged goggles. While wearing the goggles participants attempted to pick small beads with letters on them out of a tray to make a beaded bracelet with their name on it.
Music was provided by local bands the Killing Sons and Knockin Joe. The Killing Sons entertained spectators with heartfelt acoustic rhythms played by band member Andrew Reid. Next up was Knockin Joe with a crowd pleasing energetic show filled with classic American rock songs. Towards the end of the concert Knockin Joe was joined by their number one fan Arc member Regina Jackson to belt out one of her favorite tunes.
Overall, this years Arc Walk Stroll and Roll had something for everyone. Micro enterprises were on location to sell food and crafts, participants won prizes from many local businesses, and the music was fun and entertaining for all. Most importantly members of the community were able to join together to walk, stroll, and roll to support the Arc of Midland!

United Way is an important partner in the work that we do. In an effort to help United Way reach the goal of raising $5,000,000 this year, we are participating in a pop can drive and a "change for change" campaign. Please bring your loose change and pop cans to our annual meeting on October 20th so that we can show the power of our membership when it is time to help out! The Arc of Midland has already begun collecting money from the people they serve during the United Way Campaign. As the United Way is serving many more people this year, we need to all step up our support

As some of you may have heard, Michigan is one of a few states that have been selected by the Federal government to look at reform of service delivery for people who are "dual eligible's", meaning people who have both Medicaid and Medicare. This system reform has the potential to significantly impact many people who have intellectual and developmental disabilities. .
